Years Educational Focus: Our 6th and 7th grade program is focused around God's revelation of Himself to man and the
gift of His life through the sacraments. We will be using a new text book this year by Ignatius Press titled THE LIFE OF
GRACE. We will also focus on learning how to defend and explain our Catholic Faith.
Some of the Goals we have for this years are:
Prayers-- Sign of the Cross, Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be, Act of Contrition, Prayer Before Meals, Guardian Angel,
Apostles Creed, the Rosary, Hail Holy Queen, Stations of the Cross.
Catholic Doctrine-- Know the Golden Rule, Know the Ten Commandments, know the cardinal virtues and the difference
between a mortal and venial sin.
Liturgical Year-- Know the colors of the liturgical year and identify the seasons, Be able to tell what major Christian
Holidays conclude the seasons of Lent & Advent, Be able to identify how many days are in the seasons of Christmas and
Advent, Lent and Easter.
Seven Sacraments—Be able to list the seven sacraments (in order) and explain what it means to make a good confession.
Order of the Mass— Be able to list the four major parts of the Mass (Introductory Rites, Liturgy of the Work, Liturgy of
the Eucharist, Concluding Rites) and know the steps in each part.
Sacred Vessels & Vestments—Be able to name the holy items in our church, name the items related to the Holy Eucharist,
and Father's attire.
Bible Skills---- Be familiar with the basics of the Bible (Old Testament, New Testament, what books are in a Catholic Bible
that are not in a Protestant Bible), know the books of the Bible and have a working knowledge of how the mass readings are
found in the Bible.
Church History-- Be able to put scrambled historical events into correct order (Abraham 1850BC, AD Jesus is born in
Bethlehem, 64 AD Christian persecution begins under Nero, 300AD emperor Constantine ends Christian persecution, 325
Council of Nicaea....).
